Usage
The drawing below shows a possible smart building network deployment using the MHTi-NODE-CORE, a compact, high-performance Power over Ethernet (PoE) Powered Device (PD). The central component is a Cisco 9300-24 PoE Switch, which provides both power and data connectivity over Ethernet cables. Various network servers support core functionality. While, the Core Node drives the DC loads like lights and shades and gathers sensor data and wall switch states.
MHTi-NODE-CORE Applications:
- Lighting Control: Each MHTi-NODE-CORE is connected to a Light Fixture. The nodes support advanced lighting features like dimming, tunable white, and RGBW color control, enabling sophisticated and energy-efficient lighting management.
- Motorized Shade Control: Another MHTi-NODE-CORE is linked to a Motorized Shade, allowing for automated control of window coverings. The node supports protocols for seamless integration with shade systems like Mecho and Somfy.
- Sensor Integration: One MHTi-NODE-CORE is connected to a Sensor, demonstrating its ability to gather environmental data. The node provides a 24V output supply and supports 0-10V analog input or RS-485 for sensor communication.
- Wall Switch Integration: A final MHTi-NODE-CORE is connected to a Wall Switch, showcasing its compatibility with traditional user interfaces.
Network Communication and Control:
- Inspextor Server: The Inspextor Server acts as the central control hub, communicating with the MHTi-NODE-COREs over CoAP/HTTPS. This allows for remote management, configuration, and automation of the connected devices.
- MQTTS Broker: The MQTTS Broker facilitates communication using the MQTTS protocol, for secure real-time data exchange and event notifications between the MHTi-NODE-COREs and other systems.
- NTP Server: The NTP Server provides time synchronization for the network, ensuring accurate timestamps for data logging and scheduling.
- RADIUS Server: The RADIUS Server handles network authentication using the 802.1x protocol, enhancing security by controlling access to the network resources.
Key Features Demonstrated:
- PoE Power Delivery: The example highlights the use of 802.3bt PoE, which has the ability to deliver up to 90W of power to the MHTi-NODE-COREs, which in turn power the connected devices.
- Versatile Connectivity: The MHTi-NODE-CORE's ability to interface with various devices like lights, shades, sensors, and switches underscores its versatility in smart building applications.
- Advanced Networking: The use of protocols like CoAP, MQTTS, and 802.1x demonstrates the MHTi-NODE-CORE's robust networking capabilities for secure and efficient communication.
Wiring:
Connect two wires from the Output to the fixture and three wires to a control device like a sensor or wall switch.
In summary, this use case depicts a comprehensive smart building network powered by the MHTi-NODE-CORE, showcasing its ability to integrate diverse devices, leverage PoE for power delivery, and utilize advanced networking protocols for centralized control and automation.
